I AM Digital - The Voodoo Sessions - Sat 31st May
2008-05-31 21:00:00
After the successful event in February 08 I AM presents a night of international exposition, collaboration, and performance produced with emerging and established artists from Scotland, South Africa, England, Germany, Canada, Venezuela, Cuba, Belgium & Spain. The "innovative" program of digital art, dance performance and live music aims to promote discovery, discussion and relaxation with like-minded people in an informal environment.
The night encompasses the work of emerging and established artists and bands, the collaborations of which were in many cases instigated in Scotland. I AM has produced this night of lateral exposition as an ongoing development where we intend to add to the landscapes and spaces we find ourselves in, as well provide an innovative platform for exposition, performance and audience interaction (because in fact people are art).
We hope the format will open up the audience's eyes to the extent and the beauty of the myriad of forms that are developing around us, and as importantly develop with the participants (the audience and artists alike) an atmosphere of collaborative creativity, to enjoy good music, and dance..
9:00 PM - 9:45 PM
Dance Shorts
.
"This is not a body" Retina Dance (Belgium)
"Trench" Sabine Klaus (Germany)
The dance segment shorts and performance plan to give the audience insights into developments in contemporary dance, as well as help to create new opportunities for collaborations between Dance and Digital artists. This will hopefully lead to unique live interactions as well as promote reflections on digital media, music, movement and the physical experience.
9:45 PM - 10:10 PM
Dance Performance and Dialougue
.
"Rites" (an extract) - Anthony Missen & Kevin Turner.
The dance theatre piece, an extract of which will be performed on the night, explores the notions of masculinity and what it means to become a man. A journey of a relationship from adolescence to adulthood, seamlessly threading between conflict and resolution, movement and form.
The work exposes the dynamic of self through discovery and the gravitational forces that play out in relationships. The piece transcends introspection to traverse the nature of external change, and that which creates balance through movement and interaction, an awareness of the symbiotic differences that are part of the same "Rites".
This performance will go on to be part of the Dance Base Edinburgh Festival 08 program.
